A Poem by Kamel Wazne “eternity”
On Eternity and the Afterlife
Have you thought of the afterlife—
what awaits us,
what angels look like,
how our destiny is shaped beyond this world?
After all the glory, after all the power, after all the struggle,
we arrive the same way, and we leave the same way.
It does not matter how much wealth we hold,
how many titles we carry,
how many lands we claim.
In the end, all we need is one person
to dig our grave
and return us to the earth.
No riches can buy a place in heaven.
No emperor can command a palace there.
No president can conquer paradise.
The afterlife is not purchased by corruption.
It is granted by prayers,
by good deeds,
by the forgiveness of those we have wronged,
and above all, by God’s infinite mercy.
So I ask: if we know this truth,
why do we harm our own chances?
Why do we make the journey harder?
Let our good deeds be our way.
Let our goodness be our inheritance.
For only through goodness do we walk the road
that leads to eternity.
